Sub 2h 25min! - Self-commitment (2/2) Let's be honest: Most runners have their target that they voice out loud, while in fact they hope for an even lower time. This is probably because they hope to exceed people's expectations and receive appreciation for reaching the goal afterwards. I have an entirely different approach to it: I state my REAL goal because I want to commit myself to it! By putting my goal out right here to more than 1200 members of this community, I commit to it. As explained yesterday, a marathon below 2h 25min is a very ambitious goal. So what happens now if I reach the finish line in 2h 26min? 1200 people here would know: This guy failed at reaching his goal. Is this a pleasant position to be in? Hell no! And this entirely independent of whether it means for me a new personal best by full 5min(!) So I have now four months to make sure I train as hard as possible and make the very most out of it not to disappoint that many people here. This is exactly why I do it because in the end I want to become stronger/better/faster and every little extra motivation helps to achieve that! • I can only recommend this approach.. just try it and if you find yourself working harder: There you go!
